Training Groups
Goal-oriented dance practicing
VKTY is probably best known for its coaching groups, which have been successful at the national level year after year. At one time, the joking nickname “Vantaan kauhut” (The Horrors of Vantaa) reflected the fact that our groups were tough opponents in competitions. This name has fallen out of use, but our coaching groups are still known for their quality, creative choreographies and good team spirit!
The age division of the coaching groups follows the rules of the FDO (Finnish Dance Organization). The rules define the age groups according to the age of the dancer in the year of the competition.
Children’s coaching groups
Children’s coaching groups practice dance with a slightly more goal-oriented approach than in weekly classes.
Dancers who are 12 years old or younger in the year of the competition.
Youth coaching groups
Youth coaching groups practice with a goal in mind.
Dancers who are at least 13 years old and at most 16 years old in the year of the competition. Also check out the open age group coaching groups.
Adults’ coaching groups
Adult coaching groups practice goal-oriented and diverse training.
Dancers who will be 17 years old or older in the year of the competition. Also check out the coaching groups for those over 31 and the open age group.
Solos and duos
In addition to coaching groups, VKTY members can receive solo or duo coaching!
The Finnish National Championships (SM and IKM) competitions have solo and duo categories, in which a large number of dancers from the scene participate every year. Anyone can participate – you do not have to be part of the coaching group. Solo and duo categories are entered in your own age group, and in duos, both dancers must be in the same age group.
Auditioning to coaching groups
Dancers are selected for the groups once a year through auditions.
Practicing in coaching groups is binding and we have compiled general rules for coaching groups. Each group also has its own rules determined between the team and the coaches.
